The Dockyard area is small but there is a cove beach (added cost), a shopping mall, and several interesting things to do in the Dockyard. It's easily navigated, and good if you have someone who has mobility issues. I recommend exploring this area on your last day of the cruise as you will more limited time on your last day and you won't want to "miss the boat".
This is a view of the ships from the Royal Dockyard past the mall area towards the bridge that leads to the rest of the island.
This is a view from our balcony facing the Royal Dockyard and to the right of us is the National Museum of Bermuda.
Once you arrive you can take the high speed ferry from the cruise port to other areas of the island (click to read about the ferry) to both St. George and to Hamilton towns which also includes bus fare to the beaches.
Scooters are everywhere there and they are for rent in the Dockyard. The scooter rental shop is straight forward in the dockyard from the pier. You can take the scooter on the ferry with you and drive it around the island if you like as this is a great way to explore the island. Keep in mind the island is still British and thus they drive on the left side of the road. You must be 18 yrs of age to rent or drive a scooter.
Other interesting things to do and see in the Dockyard are the Glass Blowing shop, the Ceramics shop and the mall area. In the mall you will find shops for souvenirs, restrooms and dining. There is a small area just before the cove beach for kids to play in the water or on the playground. Don't forget to stop a moment for a sweet smooch at the Moongate - these are found throughout the island. The more you stop the more you're assured a long and happy life together... as legend tells it. ;0)
